QUEEN OF THE AIR

NAPPA LAMBSKIN
Soft, smooth and luxurious nappa lambskin is the ultimate leather indulgence. Although nappa lambskin is the most delicate of leather types it is also very practical and transforms into today's most fashionable designs. Nappa lambskin is a smooth grain leather that is tanned from the outer side of the animal's skin.

NEW ZEALAND SLINK LAMBSKIN
Slink lambskins are the natural casualties of sheep farming. During the lambing seasons inclement weather conditions unfortunately lead to deaths. These lambs are collected, avoiding a potential health hazard and providing income for the farmers.

Once the skins arrive at the factory they are thoroughly soaked and washed to remove all impurities then begins a series of specialist craft operations that will end with them being very fine and soft, suitable for high fashion clothing.

All skins go through a complex tanning and conditioning process for strength and softness. They are treated with specially selected natural oils to give them a unique feel of suppleness.

Slink Lambskins naturally have a curly wool finish. The wool can also be ironed to give a softer brushed wool finish.

Broadtail type slink lambskins are specially selected early in the tanning process. They have a unique crimp in the wool close to the skin that, when clipped, produces the broadtail effect similar to astrakhan or karakul. Barely 10% of all skins exhibit this unique characteristic most often found in skins of the Romney sheep. To get the broadtail effect a number of extra processes are needed to provide the lustre and accentuate the broadtail effect. Special machines have been developed for the final clipping process.

This type of skin is almost uniquely New Zealand in origin due to the prevalence of the Romney breed and the sophisticated collection and processing operation based here. Broadtail can be presented with the alternative side finished in suede or nappa for reversible jackets and coats.
